Scholarships

Scholarships are one of the most important ways that the Long Beach City College Foundation supports the students of Long Beach City College. The Foundation provides more than 950 scholarships per year for over $1 million. Since 2012 the LBCC Foundation has awarded more than 12,000 scholarships for a total of over $9.5 million.

While community college is an affordable way to earn a quality education, many of our students come from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds; support themselves, a family or others; and work full or part time. Scholarships are the only way they can continue the education that will forever improve their lives.

Endowed Scholarships

An endowed scholarship is a lasting way to support our students. A gift of $25,000 or greater sets up a permanent scholarship. Scholarships are awarded from the interest accrued annually. Scholarships can be set up with a one-time gift or a pledge to provide the funds over a period of up to five years. Donors select the scholarship criteria including GPA, major and financial need. Donors receive an invitation to the annual Scholarship Reception where they will be recognized for their gifts and meet their scholarship recipient(s).

Named Scholarships

A named scholarship requires a minimum 3-year commitment of a $1,000 or greater gift each year or paid in full during the first year. A $1,000 scholarship, in the donor’s name or a name designated by the
donor, will be awarded each year. The donor may continue donations beyond the three years. Donors select the scholarship criteria including GPA, major and financial need. Donors receive an invitation.

General Scholarship Fund

Scholarship gifts of any amount may be put into the General Scholarship Fund. These gifts will be combined with other funds in the General Scholarship Fund to provide a Foundation scholarship. Gifts in memory of someone that has passed away will be tracked and if the total received reaches $1,000, a one-year named scholarship will be awarded. If the total does not reach $1,000, the gifts will be combined with other funds to provide a Foundation scholarship.
